Insect Bite?

On wednesday evening, nicky came home and started to complain "pain" and pointing to his left foot. and his foot was red...and it looked like feng-mok again~ i quickly gave him a bath, cleaned him up in case the feng-mok spreads again. applied calamine lotion and he was ok.

The next day, teacher called up to say that nicky doesnt want to walk. So my mum took nicky to see a doctor in the afternoon, and lucky, dr Chong said it was a bite.

But it looks kinda bad ~ something like water-retention when you are in your 3rd trimester le...

Nicky was walking with a limp on thursday and on friday, it seem to have improved after some cream and medication, and now he is RUNNING again! THANK GOD!!

Nattie's visit to Dr Tan

Nattie was due for her 2nd dose of pneumococcal..and so the clinic made an appt for us on saturday. At the same time, we took the chance to see her for nattie's cough that never seem to be gone~ it was a good visit, and we felt at ease when Dr Tan says that her lungs are ok. Just need to get the phlegm cleared. So we are on a 5 day course of anti-botics and please bless this darn virus to be gone forever!

Poor baby~lotsa medicine ;(

Friday the 30th?

shouldn't it be Friday the 13th?

Today, it's Friday the 30th and it is definitely a bad day for us.
Well, to cut it short, we received a call from nicky's school only 12 mins after I left him there. As we were unable to make out what that teacher was saying, we rushed down. And I almost fainted when ah dee carried nicky out from the school!!! Nicky's finger was caught in the door and the teacher said she didn't see him or the other kids behind her!!!

***need i say more***....

We had to rush to KKH as the GP doc said it is a very deep cut and he needs to go to A&E. Lucky, the time taken to get there was not too bad, the morning jam was not that bad...X-ray, seen the doc, and done doc, reviewed and lucky the bones are ok. Stitching is a definite must. But he needs to be sedated before they stitch the wound up, and we had to wait for at least 3hrs after his last food or drink...

Here's my brave boy waiting for our turn at KKH A&E.

After stitching, we got a nice wrap from the nurses. This should last till tuesday when we go back for the review.

Received a call in the evening from doctor Leong at KKH, informing that the specialist had came and looked at nicky's x-ray and they do suspect that nicky might have a possible fracture, and we had to go back again.

So this time, the nurses bandaged his 3rd finger together wit his index finger so that the pain will not be so great on his finger and it will also help his wound to heal faster.

Only one word to describe: Traumatizing

12 week assessment - Nattie

We brought Nattie for her 12 week assessment on Monday.

Here's her progress:
12 weeks old ~ Date: 24 August 2009
Weight: 6.5 kg
Length: 62.3cm
Head Circumference: 40.5cm

Dr Tan told us that Nattie has doubled her birth weight already and this should only happen when Nattie is 4 months old...Oooops and we have been quite concerned as her drinking pattern has became quite inconsistent recently, say these 2 weeks? And we have been regularly keeping track of the time and amount of milk she drinks daily. And it was quite a relief when Dr Tan said that she is gaining weight...which shows that the amount she consumes is sufficient. Heng eh~
Nattie is now at 90 percentile for her age.
Everything went well in her assessment and she took her 1st 6 in 1 jab and 1st dose of rotavirus.
I took the same clip as I did for Nicky and they both had the same reflexes! ~cried for 1 sec and then stopped! ~

And she still looks happy when we got home :)

Rashes

Our episode yesterday...it all started with a small patch of red nappy rash that never seem to go away...and after seeing a doctor (which cannot ever make it) at buangkok on friday afternoon, the rash didnt get beta, instead, more rashes seem to appear and this time, near the groin and backside area. I guess it was becos nicky started having diarroheoa yesterday afternoon and each time he poo-ed, he would cry and refuse to allow us to wash him.

so we decided to bring him kk children's emergency last nite. well, i am rather surprised that kk actually has a 24-hr emergency for children! wah, that actually sounds serious and they is really losta of children sick...and that's actually quite scary.. luckily we didnt have to wait long for our turn and now i understand why zena will always go back to kk when gabby is sick and I do agree that they are really quite pro. Other than "The Kidz Clinic", I feel that this is the next best place to go to if your baby needs to see a doctor ;)

6 Week Assessment

Today, we brought both Nicky and Nattie to Dr Tan as Nattie is due for her 6 week assessment.

Here's her progress:
6weeks old ~
Date: 3 july 2009
Weight: 4.7kg
Length: 54.5cm
Head Circumference: 37cm

Dr Tan mentioned that babies at this age, should gain between 200 to 300 grams per day. And for Nattie, she gained 311 grams per day on the average. I am glad cos I don't know if she is taking enough milk as I am still breastfeeding.
Today we also started the 6 in 1 jab for her. She cried for about a second or two when the needle went in and then after that, she seemed to have forgotten about the whole experience. =)

For Nicky, here's his progress:
6weeks old ~
Date: 3 july 2009
Weight: 11.2kg

We brought Nicky for his 2nd dose of Flu vaccine. But Dr Tan said that they are changing the Flu vaccine so we've gotta wait for the new one to come. In the meantime, Nicky took his last dose of Pneumococcal and Booster and so we have completed the list of jabs that Nicky needed in his first years.

Our concern is his speech...we feel that he is quite slow as compared to some other kids...Dr Tan asked a few questions which he could do like pointing out to his body parts, identify people like mummy, daddy, grandpa, grandma etc., imitate actions (like sweeping the floor, wiping the floor). And occasionally, we hear clear words like "Mummy", "OK"... so we will have to monitor further. Well, so far, from the assessment, it is not a concern as he is responding and able to understand us, only that he is blabbering in his own language for now. We hope that he will be able to speak properly soon...and maybe when the time comes, once he starts, he won't stop... ;)

15mth Assessment

Brought nicky for his 15th mth assessment on saturday... :)
Lucky it wasnt a long wait this time, as i had an appointment at 1030am, well we got to see Dr Tan at 1150am.

He got his MMR vaccine and instead of the pneumococcal vaccine, I opt to give nicky the Flu vaccine for the recent hype on swine flu & H1N1 Flu. And we will be back again after 1 mth for the next dose of Flu vaccine and 2nd pneumococcal jab.

Dr Tan oso assessed a few things and I am able to give a firm answer to;
· He can walk steadily without any support at 14+mth.
· He can say "I" when we say "I see..."

· He can respond by pointing to his head, nose, stomach, eyes and toes when you ask him.

I also told Dr Tan that he loves to imitate, eg. he will make a snoring sound when you ask him, "how does grandpa snore?" or even, how you snore, he will do it! :)

Only for the tests that Dr Tan did, I was rather worried cos I actually am not sure if Nicky could do it cos these are some things that we do not do with him...and they are:
· Scribbling on his own
· Stacking blocks on top of each other

And I was impressed that Nicky could do it! Even Dr Tan said that Nicky is responding very well, cos he did it almost immediately.

1st year Assessment

Last nite, we brought Nicky for his 1 year assessment.

1 yr old ~
Date: 6 Feb 2009
Weight: 10.5 kg
Length: 76 cm
Head Circumference: ? cm
On the hold, he is 75% above average at this stage.

Dr Tan oso assessed a few things and I am able to give a firm answer to these;

  • He can only walk when supported.
  • He releases his hands when he is standing and can stand w/o any support for a few sec.
  • He can stride from left to right.
  • He points to the direction he wants to go or at something he wants to get.
  • He can drink from a straw.
  • He can pick things up with his thumb & index finger.
  • He knows how to put food/biscuits in his mouth.
  • He can chew rice :) w/o any back teeth (dr says that shows that he has got active gum/oral/jaw action)
  • He can say a few things and associate them with the actual thing such as Bye-Bye, mum-mum (food & not mummy)
  • He can oso obey to simple commands, such as pressing the buttons on his ride when we take our lil'strolls in the evening at the park.
  • He can pass and give us any item that he is holding and smile after that.
  • Oh yes! Ah dee even told dr Tan that nicky oso responds to the command: "give mummy a kiss" :)
awwwWW.............

dr Tan oso confirmed that at this age, they are throwing LOTSA things on the floor and I added Yes, almost everything! :)

Nothing more that i can remember that she asked cos she said that she will go into details in the 15mth assessment which will be in May.
Nicky was given his chicken pox & 1st pneumococcal vaccine. dr Tan also told us to monitor for fever for both this and next weekend.

(I'm seriously keeping my fingers cross!) cos we wanna attend 2 birthdays for both this and next weekend!!!

Down with Flu & Cough

this weekend we were down with flu and now cough... :(
nicky had a little runny nose on thursday, took medication, then had cough on friday nite...so took him to see dr Tan first thing on saturday morning!
went there at 845am and had to wait for approx.1hr before it's our turn...went mcDonald's for breakie, nicky's 1st try on hotcakes! :) and he seemed to like it... hee...

dr Tan said there is new medicine for nicky boy now cos he is "older" so those at home, gotta put aside for spares... so she prescibed bigger bottles and higher dosage for nicky, poor baby...

and i tot the medicine was very christmas-sy cos of the colors! :) the red & green...
Since i was at there at the PD, decided to clarify some doubts...
  1. Checked if nicky's stool (kaya-like paste) is normal? she said yes
  2. When can nicky can start eating Beef? she said anytime now.
  3. When nicky can start eating eggs? (this is a shocker to me ~ only after he is 1 yr old!)
For pt 1, joelle's nanny was concern if it was due to "wrong milk powder brand" but for dr Tan, she said that if his stool has all along been like this, then there is nothing wrong.
For pt 2, i heard from somewhere that babies shouldn't start eating Beef too young, cos their liver cant digest or something....dr Tan says, not true. So no problem to start now.
For pt 3, cos momiji had immediate allergy when she ate eggs the last time, so i tot i beta check with dr Tan and she said, it's best to start after he is 1 yr old. Didnt ask in detail cos it may be toooo chim for me...so i just left it as that.
Hope this information is useful for you mummies :)
For now, both me and ah dee are down with flu and cough...:(

dr Tan said to continue this medication for the next 2-3 days and then can stop after that...so i hope by then nicky's cough would be gone! like the wind! hmmppff!

Then we got up for dinner and then i took some pictures of the boys after their dinner & a good afternoon nap :)

Our Off Day~

well, Tuesday both me and ah dee were off... i told ah dee that we must bring nicky to his PD cos he seems to be coughing and sneezing ~ ah dee said yes we should!! although it didnt seem very bad, better to bring him before more phlegm develops and then it'll be difficult to cure then...so we started our day by visiting his PD 1st...

nicky getting impatient while sitting on his bumbo seat waiting for his daddy to go get ready...

before setting off, i brought along this sun-shade that i bought the day before for his car rides...so the sun doesnt get into nicky's eyes when we are driving ~ cheryl bought one too and said it was not too bad...it's from munchkin's and they always have the HotAlert thingy, that will warn you if it's too hot for your baby and so gotta shift the car seat to the centre or turn our air-con up! :)

Nicky really sick ~ this is the 1st time that i see him so sian sitting is his car-seat...he must be feeling very uncomfortable and cant express it to us.......my poor darling boy...

:) lucky he was able to play and smile at the clinic while waiting for the nurse to register him and that is becos....look who is playing with him?!! his daddy lo.... haiz....he loves his daddy and check out that big smile!! :)

Nurse weighed nicky and he is now 8.1 kg and no fever, cos his temperature was 36.7 degrees. The nurse told us that if his temperature is 37.5 degrees and above, then we will need to come back immediately~***choy choy choy***!!!

the usual wait at Kidz Clinic, gotta wait for 1 and half to 2hrs waiting for our turn after taking the queue number ~ so we after the registration, we went to compass pt to collect my lens, ah dee make specs and to have our lunch...and then we came back 2hrs later ~ while waiting for our turn next, daddy entertaining nicky before he gets restless ~ and i took some shots while they were having fun and posing his kungFu kick and then i decided to take his signature legs...

we were welcomed by his PD, dr Tan...when the nurse opened the door, dr Tan said from her table, "why are you back so soon, nicholas?" OOOpppppsss.... yah, we were just there like 2-3weeks for his last jab wor... well, lucky nothing serious at least, but she has given us medicine for the mucus on his running nose and phlegm for his cough... aiyo...the medicine will make him drowsy and his poo alittle watery...so beware...lose stool coming up!!!
We went home first cos our dinner is only at 7oopm at dad's fav steamboat plc at Jade room restaurant, HotelRoyal :) so we decided to give nicky his 1st feed of medicine...on his fav seat...
